The House of Books

I spent a few hours today in The House of Books in Ballybofey. It is a local charity shop which sells second hand books and donates the money to Mary’s Meals a charity which ensures children all over the world get at least one meal a day in a place of education. This Charity was founded in 2002 by Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow when he visited Malawi during a famine and spoke to a 14 year old boy there that told him that his ambition in life was to have enough food to eat and to go to school some day. So from that day forward Mary’s Meals are feed 1,187,204 children in schools in improverished communities around the world per day.

The House of Books supports The J.Dwalu Kimber Primary School, Montserrado County in Liberia. To date it has raised €11,645 and this has fed 803 children for a whole school year. This fantastic book shop is run by Danny McIntyre with the help of Chris Ingram, Liam Hoey and Avril and Rob Salter who all willing give up there spare time to help this cause.

As I walked around today I saw various authors jumping out of the shelves at me, the most beautiful children’s reading corner and up stairs I saw the area where Rob does his book binding. It doesn’t matter what you like to read I’m sure if you call in to the store you will be sure to find it. I was shown a very old and rare edition of The Womens Weekly magazine from 1911 as I looked through it I was completely taken back by the immaculate condition of the magazine.

As a mother I wouldn’t like to think of any child going hungry in the world and I completely admire these people who work towards raising funds to keep the charity active so I appeal to my followers to support this charity and if you live locally call in and buy a book they range from €1.00 upwards.

If you wish to donate to Mary’s Meals visit the website or Telephone 01 857 2155
